Interview with Melissa Cruz, founder of AutismoProject
What is Autism Project?
AutismoProject is an initiative that aims to support and help families and neurodivergent people (ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, among others), providing them with socio-emotional tools backed by scientific evidence and specialized online care.

Our approach covers a variety of areas, including learning stress management techniques, learning new parenting guidelines, improving interpersonal and family communication, establishing routines, managing conflict situations, strengthening self-esteem and confidence, and working on conflict resolution.

How and when did the project come about?
AutismoProject emerged in January 2022 as an additional result of my doctoral thesis in health sciences. During my research, I realized the need for families of children on the autism spectrum or with diagnoses related to neurodevelopment to have a reliable source of information and education.

Initially, this initiative was established as a space for education and scientific dissemination on social networks, but over time it has evolved into a community of support and learning, with various collaborators, dissemination media and services.

What are the main barriers you have encountered when starting a business?
At AutismoProject, we address highly specialized topics focused on scientific dissemination and knowledge. As a result, one of our biggest challenges has been to achieve visibility and build a solid community around our project.

From the beginning, we have strived to speak based on scientific evidence. However, we understand that this approach may not appeal to the general public.

We have taken on the challenge of translating this scientific information into a more accessible and understandable language, so that people can identify with our content and feel motivated to seek out our services.

We offer three types of services designed for neurodivergent individuals and families. Our first service focuses on the creation of free learning materials and content. This includes multimedia content on social media, weekly posts on our dedicated blog, and free downloadable support material from our website.

Our second service is a psychosocial counseling space, where we provide guidance and emotional support. We focus on helping you address and resolve emotional, social and personal problems that may be affecting your well-being and quality of life.

The third service consists of inclusive and accessible projects for companies and schools committed to inclusion. We offer customized solutions to create more accessible and friendly environments for everyone, thus improving the quality of life and the experience of all users.

What opportunities has the digital world brought to projects related to neurodiversity?
The digital world presents countless possibilities and opportunities in the field of neurodiversity, as it provides the ability to create products that are accessible to everyone, while allowing the democratization of knowledge.
