What you should know about cookies if you have a website

Post by rabia829 »

The legal compliance of a website depends on several factors. On the one hand, there are the legal texts that you must implement on any website or personal blog. But there are also cookies, which we are going to focus on in today's post. You've probably heard about them, but do you know what a cookie is? What are they for?

What is a cookie?
A cookie is a block of code that websites use to make a website work or to collect or store information about visitors. That code is installed in the browser of the viber database device with which the user is accessing the website.

Having seen the above, let's look at the regulations that apply to cookies :

Data protection regulations: General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 and LO on Data Protection and Guarantee of Digital Rights 3/2018 of December 5 .

Law 34/2002 on Information Society Services and Electronic Commerce (hereinafter LSSI)
Furthermore, in July 2020 the AEPD published the “ Technical Guide to Cookies ”, which is ultimately the Lord's Prayer for all of us who want to enforce the regulations on our websites.
Types of Cookies
Before going into the subject, you should know that there are several types of cookies. They can be classified into the following types :

According to their purpose : In two large groups, here we find the technical or necessary cookies, and the non-technical or non-necessary cookies. In short, those necessary for a website to function and those that have a different purpose. Among others, we find analytical cookies, advertising cookies, social cookies and behavioural cookies, among others.
According to the conservation period : These are session cookies and permanent cookies.
According to the property : They are first-party and third-party cookies.

What does the regulation say?
Now that we've seen what a cookie is and the types of cookies that exist, you might be wondering: why all the fuss? Why are we bombarded with cookies and so many signs now?

The key to it all is consent. Reviewing the definition of what a cookie is, let us remember that:

A cookie is a program or tool that websites use to make the website work or to collect or store information from visitors. These tools are installed on the device of the user who is accessing that website.
