Going viral. It seems so easy these days, because everyone can grab a stage via various media and channels. For example, you can simply livestream from your living room via YouTube and Facebook. Former radio DJ Patrick Kicken went viral before the word even existed. But what is the power of a good viral? And what is the downside of (online) success?

He started as a radio DJ at 3FM and Veronica and went viral back then . He shared funny videos on the radio or on his website kicken.com. He currently has so many WhatsApp groups that he has a separate phone for them. That's how he collects content. But one video (with 25 million views!) caused his entire YouTube channel to be taken offline. And that while the video was set to private. How did that happen exactly? And why do some things go viral and others don't? You'll hear it in this podcast.

I have always seen the internet as a breeding ground for creativity. We share job function email database something with each other, one makes it a bit more fun and the other makes it a hit. But the internet and going viral is also addictive.

“If you want to stand out with something in 2017/2018, try it, it's hard.” Kicken talks about the early days of the internet, making the front page, radio then and now and the addictive effect of (online) success.

He also shares some tips on how to generate reach and go viral. For example, give people the feeling that it is also their content and that they can have influence. People are interested in other people, not in brands.
