How to pay taxes in portugal and from abroad

Post by bitheerani674 »

There are several taxes in Portugal that must be paid in order to have everything in order with the Tax and Customs Authority (AT). But more important than knowing which direct or indirect taxes you must pay, it is important to comply with the established deadlines and know exactly what procedures you must take into account when paying, whether you are in Portugal or need, for some reason, to pay taxes abroad.

How to Pay Taxes in Portugal
There are different ways to pay taxes, which makes it easier to keep up to date with your tax obligations. There are the following tax payment options in Portugal:

Direct Debit
Direct debit is ideal for regular payments, with many advantages for the taxpayer:

no membership fees;
The request can be made at a local tax office or directly on the overseas chinese in worldwide phone number data Portal under Citizens or Companies Manage Authorizations ;
fulfillment of obligations without forgetting, thus avoiding fines and penalties for late payments;
practical payment, without the need to go to a local service.
To complete the registration process, the IBAN used must be confirmed by the Tax Authority (AT). You can check the IBAN in Services > My Area > Integrated Position > Registration Information IBAN . For more information on paying taxes by direct debit, you can consult the user guide available on the Tax Authority Portal .

ATM
Paying taxes using an ATM is quite simple, you just need to go to an ATM with the collection document reference provided by the Tax Authority:

insert the bank card and respective code;
select the option “Payments to the State”;
follow the instructions presented.
Homebanking
Without leaving the comfort of your home or office, you can use a smartphone, tablet or computer to pay your taxes:

access the official website of your bank;
follow the instructions to make payments;
use the collection document reference provided by AT.
MB Way
You can pay taxes using MB Way from your mobile phone or other device with internet access. To do this, the MB Way icon must be visible on your tax payment documents and you must also install and activate the MB Way service on the device you are going to use.

You can download it from the APP Store or Google Play and if you need more specific information, visit the MB Way website.

Authorized Locations
It is still possible to pay taxes in the traditional way, that is, by going to a tax office or CTT counter. It is advisable to pay by bank card, but it is possible to use cash or even a check. You can only pay up to 500 euros in cash. If you choose to pay by check, it must be filled out as follows:

crossed and issued to the order of IGCP, EPE or Public Debt and Treasury Management Agency (payment at Finance);
crossed and issued to the order of Correios de Portugal (payment at CTT);
have the payment reference;
have the debtor's tax identification number (NIF);
be dated with the day of payment or one of the two immediately preceding days;
mention “Payment of Taxes”.

How to Pay Taxes from Abroad
If you want to pay taxes in Portugal from abroad, you can do so by direct debit, bank transfer or, alternatively, by MB Way. We will explain in detail how you can pay taxes within the deadlines using these methods.
