The following year, John dropped out of Harvard and the two brothers started Stripe

Patrick, just 16 years old, was awarded Young Scientist of the Year (for his work on the Lisp programming language). He also had to leave high school early to attend his computer science classes at MIT. John, for his part, holds the record for the highest score in the Irish Leaving Certificate (the final exam that qualifies for university) and also entered Harvard University for Computer Science, another Ivy League institution.

At the beginning of their freshman year (2007), Patrick and John founded Auctomatic, an auction management system for marketplaces like Amazon and eBay. Automatic joined the winter batch of Y C indonesia telegram data ombinator, a startup accelerator for seed money. A few months later, the company was acquired by Live Current Media for $5 million — and Patrick became head of product engineering — at the age of 19. At that time, John was attending Harvard.

The following year, John dropped out of Harvard and the two brothers started Stripe. Stripe’s initial funding could not have come from anywhere other than Y Combinator — in fact, from its founder, Paul Graham, who Patrick had previously known. A little later, the brothers met Peter Thiel and Elon Musk, the founders of PayPal . The result was a $2 million investment and, according to Patrick, good insight and orientation.
