For the Egyptians, these gold objects were a kind of preparation for the afterlife.
Of the mummies, 13 had gold tongues in their mouths and one had a plaque decorating its nails . All of these objects were photographed and later published by the University of Barcelona.
Added to all this are papyri and other ancient inscriptions , which reaffirm the great religious devotion and monastic activity shared by the inhabitants of that magnificent ancient civilization.

During the campaign led by doctors Esther Pons and Maite Mascort that led to the discovery , excavations were resumed at the Coptic monastery of San Ciríaco , a place that offers new keys to understanding the monastic movement in Egypt during the first centuries of Christianity.
