It's no secret that TikTok has become a real headache for Facebook in recent years, with the burgeoning Chinese social network threatening to steal its 2.0 throne. And it seems that fearful of seeing its privileged position in the social media universe threatened, Meta, Facebook's parent company, paid a prominent consulting firm linked to the Republican Party to launch a defamatory campaign against TikTok in the United States. This is according to The Washington Post in an exclusive investigation that came to light on Wednesday.

Targeted Victory, the consulting firm in nepal phone number data question, reportedly sent opinion pieces and letters to the editor to some of the largest local and regional newspapers across the United States. One of Targeted Victory’s directors reportedly told company employees that the message needed to be spread that, although Facebook was currently in the eye of the storm, the real threat was TikTok, a foreign app with a lot of data on millions of teenagers at its disposal.

Facebook’s decision to recruit Targeted Victory to wage a dirty war against TikTok came just weeks after the social network announced it was losing users for the first time in its 18-year history. In its most recent quarterly results, Targeted Victory acknowledged that its number of daily active Facebook users had suffered a prolapse of almost 500,000 people at the end of last year.
