Tyler Perry is an actor and director, as well as one of the most successful producers in the United States. In 2015, Perry opened the largest film studio in the United States in Atlanta. The Walking Dead series and the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever were filmed there, for example .

The 54-year-old American producer had planned to continue pumping huge sums of money into his production studio, which is, after all, a very thriving business. Perry had intended to invest 800 million dollars in the expansion of his studio. However, overnight the producer has suspended his ambitious expansion plans. And the reason is none other than the rapid development of artificial intelligence and in particular the arrival on the scene of Sora , the new and prodigious tool from OpenAI for generating hyper-realistic videos.

After watching a demonstration of Sora, which can generate videos from simple text inputs, Perry was stunned (in a good way). “When someone tells you that things like this are possible today, it might not really hit you that hard. But when you see with your own eyes what AI is capable of, it’s just mind-blowing ,” Perry told The Hollywood Reporter .

The producer firmly believes that with tools like Sora at its disposal, the film industry could do away with the need to scout locations and build sets . However, this would also mean the loss of thousands of jobs, Perry admits.

While Perry can't help but marvel at the potential benefits of AI for film, he's also concerned about the technology's impact on the film industry . After all, it's a technology that affects every single player in the industry , from actors to technical crews and post-production staff. "We need regulations that protect us in some way. If not, I don't know how we're going to survive. We have to be cautious and try not to lose control of our stories," he warns.

Perry describes the practical effects of the introduction of tools like Sora to the film industry: “There’s no longer a need to travel to other locations to shoot a movie. If I want to shoot a snowy landscape in Colorado, I can just input text into Sora. If I want to shoot a scene on the moon, I can easily generate that scene with the help of AI. And if I want to shoot a scene in a living ro cameroon whatsapp lead om with mountains in the background, I don’t need to build a dedicated set in my studio. I can sit comfortably in my office and do it all from my computer.”

Tyler Perry isn't the only one worried about the impact of AI on film. James Cameron, director of Titanic and Avatar , sees the technology as a threat to the "magic alchemy" that has made the seventh art possible to date . Cameron doesn't believe, however, that AI is yet in a position to produce better films than real-life human beings. "I don't think that a disembodied mind that simply regurgitates what a human being has previously said about life, love, lies, fear or mortality can really be successful," Cameron emphasises.

However, AI is also rich in many advantages for film professionals , who with the help of this technology can spend less time on particularly tedious tasks such as storyboards and special effects. Moreover, even though the ideas that AI feeds on are never 100% new, the amalgamation of ideas that this technology provides can eventually give wings to “storytelling”.
